| | Description | The TeleSpyTM is a clever and reliable combination of a telephone, a motion sensor, and a microphone. The TeleSpy is an ordinary telephone that doubles as a monitoring system. Simply enter any phone number you want the unit to call and turn the motion sensor switch to on. Should motion be detected the phone will dial the number entered and upon answering you will be able to listen in via the amplified microphone on the unit. The TeleSpy allows you to decide from a safe location if it is a friend or foe before you call the police. The listening period is about 30 seconds, then the TeleSpy disconnects and instantly re-arms to detect again and again. TeleSpy operates from any phone line, requires no installation, and is completely portable. No monitoring fees, No false alarms.
The TeleSpy's telephone is the same popular "Slimline" telephone found in millions of home. Operation is no different than the regularly produced version and the user would notice no difference. The TeleSpy plugs into any standard telephone jack for normal phone operation.
How does the Self Test function help me?
The test switch on the TeleSpy powers the green LED light near it. It tells the operator instantly when the motion sensor detects something (light comes on). The light stays during a timed period (the listening period) then the phone would disconnect (light off), now, light is off and TeleSpy is instantly re-armed for the next detection. Knowing how to use this function allows the operator to discover the exact perameter and sensitivity of the motion sensor within their personal environment.
Can the TeleSpyTM be used in smaller homes and apartments and homes with existing security systems?
The TeleSpyTM is an ideal solution for the smaller homes and apartments.
What if I hear a burglar?
First, be grateful you're not there but are listening from a remote location. Never attempt to apprehend criminals. | |

Works as advertised Apr 12, 2006
By Timothy B. Dereg I bought this item a few weeks ago for a remote cabin. I set it up to dial my cell phone and then had a neighbor try it. It works! And you can find it cheaper than what Amazon sells it. Just do a Google search for "Telespy".
The motion sensor is at one end of the base unit, so you need to keep the Telespy pointed in a direction most likely to be crossed by an intruder. It is sensitive to motion up to 30 feet away, according to the user manual, although I didn't do any actual tests on distance. I find that it gives me about 20 seconds of listening time before it hangs up. Contrary to the marketing claim, I would NOT say that it has an amplified microphone for picking up sounds - more like what an ordinary telephone can pick up, so you'll have a hard time hearing any background noises if you happen to receive a call when you're in a noisy area - such as while you're driving.
Picking up the receiver while it's auto-dialing will stop the call, which is handy if YOU happen to be the one who triggers it.
There are a few improvements I would like to see. I found that if the electricity is knocked out, the auto-dialer will be triggered when power is restored even though nothing actually activated the motion sensor. Maybe adding a battery backup would prevent this. Another would be the addition of a remote motion sensor (perhaps even wireless) that could be located beyond the reach of the phone cord. There are jacks on the Telespy called Remote In and Remote Out for for yet-to-be-developed accessories that are mentioned on the Telespy website, so perhaps a remote sensor is already on the drawing board. Another would be the ability to call it and have it act as a listening device, although in the wrong hands that would be considered an invasion of privacy.

Works well, but has one flaw Aug 07, 2007
By HBJC The motion sensor/call feature works as it's supposed to. However, there is one problem. If you (and I assume anyone else) try to call home while you're away, the TeleSpy picks up on the first ring and dials the number you programmed. In other words, it blocks incoming calls to your house.
If you have call forwarding, voice mail, etc., this is no problem I guess. However, if you have a regular answering machine and expect it to record messages for you while you're away, it's possible this phone will not let any calls get to your machine.
I realize that the unit I received is likely defective and I contacted the manufacturer about it. I was told I would receive a replacement and provided my shipping address. The replacement never came; I twice replied to the manufacturer's original message to ask where the replacement was, but received no further response. The cost of the unit wasn't worth any more of my time and energy so I gave up. I will not trust this manufacturer in the future.

Great alternative to monitored security system Apr 24, 2010

I bought this product to monitor my retail wine business. It falsed every hour and I could not figure out why for a week. I finally figured that the reason was because this phone is very sensitive and I had set the phone on top of a small refrigerator and every time the compressor turned on, I was called (Very stressful week of false alarms). I moved to a different location and I'm confident that if I'm called now, I have a intruder. I like the fact that I can listen to what is going on and make the desision whether or not to investige or call the police. I would recommend this product to a friend and buy another.
Great Item @ a Great Price Nov 25, 2011
By Joe Works as advertised.
Also quotes from previous reviews:
"There is no way to suppress the dial out every time you turn it on. I just let it end up as a Missed Call on my cell phone. "
MY NOTE:
TRUE, but I just hit ignore on my way out the door.

"If you (and I assume anyone else) try to call home while you're away, the TeleSpy picks up on the first ring and dials the number you programmed. In other words, it blocks incoming calls to your house.
....is likely defective"
MY NOTE:
I have no problem. Answering machine works fine. I would think the problem is as stated defective in that review of that purchase.
Excellent security device; a simple telephone Jul 19, 2011
By dallas7 This is NOT a programmable phone. Like any simple phone it will merely call the last number dialed. If you called town hall with a complaint about trash pickup, that's who will be called unless you remember to call the number you want it to call if an intruder sets it off while you're out of the house. This makes it really easy to mess up. It is best just to never ever use it as a phone and forbid every one else from using it as a phone. Good luck.
It does not support the insertion of a pause in the dial sequence so that any number(s) needing to be prepended to the phone number might cause the dial-out to fail. The first or second digits may be cut off as the command, such as the call block override *82 or a "nine to dial out," is processed. While not usually an issue in pure analog (POTS) services, this lag is common to digital voice modem (DVM) cable system devices or a broadband analog telephone adapter (ATA) for the likes of Magic Jack, Skype and Voice over IP (VoIP) adapters.
I did experience intermittent power-on and detection dial out problems using *82 with the Motorola SBV5222 DVM for my Cox phone service. I decided to just use the Telespy without *82 and rely on my cell phone's contact list to ID the call as being from my home.
There are no accessories for the In and Out jacks nor is it likely there will ever be.
The correct way to treat the Telespy when you get home is to quickly walk up to it, lift the handset, replace it and then turn it off. That'll prevent it from calling you to tell you you're home. :-) It takes about seven seconds for the dial out to begin when motion is detected.
There is no way to suppress the dial out every time you turn it on. I just let it end up as a Missed Call on my cell phone.
There are no problems with my other phones or answering machine (I do not use my teleco's voicemail).
The gentleman at the other end of the 800# that's on the bottom of the TeleSpy was very helpful in getting all of the above squared away and clarified.
It works as advertised and worked very well for all the times I walk-by tested it. I could hear the music on the radio in the other side of the house that I turn on when I'm out. In the few weeks I've used it, there have been no false detections or calls. It works in complete silence and it's doubtful an intruder will recognize it as a security device especially if you place it on a crowded desk or table or counter top. I am convinced this is an excellent product at a price point unmatched by similar devices.
Sidebar: I have a GE 45132 Motion Sensor in the same area as the Telespy. If it dials my cell phone and I hear the GE 45129 Control Center alarm wailing away I'll have more confidence in reporting to 911 that TWO detection devices have been tripped. For about a hundred bucks I have a system that rivals those selling for twice to three times as much.
Minus two stars for the lack of choices in dial-out features.
